This morning Rockwall Kiwanis gave out 26 awards through our “Terrific Kids” program where students were recognized by faculty for outstanding achievements. Congratulations to the TERRIFIC kids at Billie Stevenson Elementary this morning! Thank you Principal Mike Pitcher for allowing us to present the honors to your TERRIFIC students!
Today we had the pleasure of a visit by Love On A Leash’s representative Donna Stottlemyer of Royce City and her friend BreeAnna.
Love On A Leash is a registered non-profit, entirely volunteer organization training dogs of various breeds and their owners for therapy services. Their primary service is to brighten the day of others in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and libraries providing emotional support.
One surprising specialty is helping children to read! Experience has shown that children who are shy or may normally struggle reading aloud, improve their reading skills due to lessened stress by reading to the dogs.
The Rockwall County Library has hosted this event before and soon other area libraries may follow.
If you would like to learn more about Love On A Leash or how you might even become a volunteer, check out their website at www.loveonaleash.org.
Thank you so much for visiting us today Donna and BreeAnna!
It was with great pleasure that the Rockwall Kiwanis presented to the Rockwall YMCA, a check for $3000 benefiting underprivileged youth for sports and mentoring programs. Thank you YMCA for visiting our Rockwall Kiwanis and presenting the many ways you serve our community!

“A Special thanks to goes out to Todd Williams who came and spoke with us representing the Rockwall 4-H Club! So many exciting programs and skills for children and youth. There is so much more to 4-H than just agriculture. Mom, Dad, you don’t have to have a cow (ha ha!) to get the kids learning the many life skills 4-H teaches. Open to boys and girls from K-12. See flyer for their upcoming 2015 kick-off event September 8th.”
