Rockwall County Kiwanis kicked off North Texas Giving day by presenting 3 of Rockwall’s Non-profits checks. Rockwall County Helping Hands,The Boys and Girls Club, and The J.R. Chilton YMCA all received donations in their effort to support their mission. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.
Rockwall Kiwanis has raise several thousand dollars this year mostly from their Tri-Rock race held in August. The Kiwanis Tri-Rock just completed it’s 14th annual triathlon, which was the first triathlon in Rockwall. Kiwanis also raises money by Sponsoring the City of Rockwall Christmas Parade, and by serving pancake breakfast to families at the Breakfast with Santa event.
Serving the children of the Rockwall community has been the focus of the local Kiwanis club for over 15 years. One of our most important service projects is our Food for Kids Program. On the second Tuesdays of the month, we purchase non-perishable food for 300 meals for qualified children in Rockwall County. At that meeting, Club members package the meals which then are distributed through our partnership with the Rockwall Boys & Girls Club and Helping Hands of Rockwall. In the 18 months since the program started over 5,400 meals have been purchased and distributed.
Other areas of service include the Angel League, which is a baseball program for special needs boys and girls ages 4 to 15.Our club also has an adult coach pitch team for ages 16 – 60. The Kiwanis Club of Rockwall County owns this team and provides free of charge uniforms and gloves. Parents coach the teams. The City of Rockwall Parks Department provides the baseball fields and all equipment. Local businesses provide us with free season end trophies and professional photography (team and individual pictures). Any additional needs are provided by the Kiwanis Club.Other service projects include:
- The Annual Rockwall Christmas Parade
- The Terrific Kids School Recognition Program
- Educational Scholarships
- Community Needs Grants
- Wheel Chair Ramp Build Program
- Boy Scouts Troop 690
